In the spring, ships are repositioned from the Caribbean to Europe, and in the fall, vessels sail from Europe to the U.S. to begin Canada-New England and Caribbean itineraries. Previously, when the ship was scheduled for departure from Baltimore, all guests needed to be on board no later than 4 p.m. Instead, Carnival Cruise Line is arranging for “a limited number of buses” to transport guests from Baltimore to Norfolk, with shuttle service beginning at 8 a.m. Guests are required to register for the complimentary service to reserve their seat. Carnival Legend‘s departure on Monday, April 15, 2024 will be from Norfolk, Virginia rather than Baltimore, Maryland as originally planned, due to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26. Since that time, Carnival Legend has been operating from Norfolk as a homeport, as the Port of Baltimore is not yet able to reopen.
Day 1: Port Canaveral (Orlando)

Similarly, if your crossing takes you from northern Europe on a northerly route to the U.S., and you want to be among the first to spot land (perhaps Greenland or Newfoundland), book a starboard cabin. If you are cruising into New York Harbor just before dawn and want to see the Statue of Liberty from your cabin, book on the port side. For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices.

And wait 'till you see the Camel Club Casino — proof that Carnival Glory is a real looker and a truly special cruise ship. Transatlantic cruises with Carnival Cruise Lines truly have something for every type of vacationer—rich culture, fun and exciting excursions, relaxing beaches, and rugged jungles. As you sail across the ocean, you will be treated to views words cannot describe.
Even the fantasy world of Seuss At Sea™, where your favorite books (and characters!) come to life before your eyes. And from the people-watching potential of the Lido Deck, to the see-and-be-seen White Heat Dance Club, Carnival Glory pulls out the stops. It even shows its true colors as it satisfies your stomach with sit-down dining options like the Emerald Room Steakhouse and the aptly-named Golden and Platinum Restaurants.
Day 13: Málaga
Some guests bring along an e-reader full of novels, while others catch up on movies, try their luck in the casino, or spend time unwinding in the spa or fitness center. On a transatlantic cruise, someone else is cooking and cleaning up after you. Guests can sleep in as long as they wish or go to bed right after dinner. The first type is a regularly scheduled transatlantic crossing on the Queen Mary 2, the only cruise ship that routinely sails back and forth across the Atlantic Ocean between New York City and London (Southampton).
Your heroic journey down the Green Thunder waterslide is a saga you’ll recount for ages. Bonsai Sushi™ proves that you needn’t teach a man to fish for him to enjoy delicacies from the sea. And once you’ve had a look — not to mention a taste — at the certifiable cocktail magic of Alchemy Bar®, you still may not believe your eyes. And over time, this ship has become even more deserving of its nameplate. The evening lineup generally starts with a multicourse dinner (same table and same waiter nightly) followed by a Broadway-inspired show, an abridged Shakespeare play or even a magic act. The ship is also famous for its Gala Evenings, capped off with Champagne sipping and dancing to a live orchestra.

This makes it a true hybrid of an ocean crossing and a traditional cruise. Eastbound cruises (from the U.S. to Europe) happen in spring, a season also often known for periods of gray skies and rain. As noted above, the best prices are generally in spring and fall for repositioning cruises.
If you can't wait to get off the ship each day when on a traditional cruise moving from port to port, you might not embrace several consecutive days at sea. If you are a self-starter who appreciates free time alone or doesn't require constant entertainment, you probably will come home planning your next transatlantic voyage. A general rule for cruises is the longer the cruise, the older the passengers. This is not surprising, because senior travelers have more time off and more disposable income. Although many younger travelers enjoy socializing with seniors, most transatlantic crossings are not "party" cruises.

On her way across the Atlantic Ocean, Carnival Legend will spend the first six full days of the sailing at sea before arriving in the Azores on Monday, April 22. After another two days at sea, the ship will visit Malaga on Thursday, April 25, and Alicante on Friday, April 26, before arriving in Barcelona on Saturday, April 27. The cruise line is extending the embarkation window, however, to give everyone adequate time for the extra travel. Currently, the Carnival Glory is sailing 7 Night Western Caribbean and 7 Night Eastern Caribbean cruises from New Orleans. She will conclude her final sailing before dry dock on March 10, 2024, and head into dry dock on March 24. By April 17, the ship will leave the dry dock and sail to Barcelona.
